I don't travel this section of road often, but 65 seems excessive for a busy road with intersections. 65 or 75 on a limited access interstate is one thing, but when you have people crossing oncoming traffic and making left turns, well, that's another.

As someone who commutes through the former "55" every day, I can say that the speed limit adjustment is simply legalizing the speed at which the majority of people already drive through that particular stretch. It puzzles me that it's actually happened, since it previously offered a lot of ticketing potential to cops (I've seen at least one person pulled over in that zone every day for the last year and a half), i.e., more money for the state, but maybe it's just a genuine answer to the complaints of the people who regularly drive through it. I've also noticed that the past two days since the speed change has been enacted, there hasn't been one cop in the stretch, so I can't help but think they're giving people time to get comfortable with the new speed, after which I assume they will start ticketing again, and maybe even with greater frequency--the article did state/warn that there is going to be very low tolerance for drivers going 70 . In terms of safety, it also mentioned that people often speed up to about 70 anyway as they access the stretch, which can cause a lot of problems if some traffic is actually adhering to previous 55 mph. I personally think it's a good thing, but I guess it remains to be seen.
